Flash Fiction Contest 2025

Hey wow! Dog Throat Journal is pleased to announce our first flash fiction contest. We're looking for odd insightful work that doesn't conform to ordinary expectations. Is that you? If so, read on please.
Money Info
- First place: $350
- Second place: $100
- Third place: $50
No entry fee. All prize money is USD, to be paid through Zelle (if possible) or some other platform where we can transfer. Prefer not to use Pay Pal, but that is an option if nothing else works for you. Winners are responsible for any platform fees.
Eligibility
- Open to everybody from the known or unknown world.
- One entry per person.
- Simultaneous sub fine, just let us know if your story gets accepted somewhere else.
- If you appeared in the latest edition of Dog Throat, that's fine. The policy we have regarding consecutive publication for contributors does not apply to the contest. Also, please take note that contest entries are read anonymously.
Story
- No theme. Brave, unconventional, lyrical and imaginative are the watchwords. Stomp on toes.
- Story must be in English, between 400 and 1000 words.
- Only previously unpublished work.
Schedule
The contest is open in the same time frame as our standard (non-contest) submissions:
June 1, 2025 to July 15, 2025.
You can enter the contest and submit to our standard submission category if you like. However, do not enter the same story in both places.
Winners will be notified after the contest closes and will be published in mid August. There may some honorable mentions (no prize money, but much appreciation). If so, they too will be notified and published.
How To Enter
- Enter our submission system.
- Ensure your profile is updated.
- Submit to category: Flash Fiction Contest.
- Do not put your name in the story. All entries are read anonymously. Entries with identifying information in the story will be disqualified.
All contest entrants (just like with our standard submissions) are placed on our mailing list. We don't share your email with anybody else, not even our kennel, and you can easily unsubscribe at any time. For more info, please see our privacy policy.
Questions?
If you have any questions, please let me know. Info is on the about / contact page. Thanks much, and stay blessed.
