Called
2025-Aug-26 • Thomas Zimmerman

My mother called me Charlie, father called me Sam, by either name so lightly here so barely there. The north wind tears my rags of words along the lamplit streets, the garden path, the forking road, dead end, wrong way & do not enter. Podcast guru tells me that my thoughts aren’t real, mere clouds that drift & dissipate within the mind’s capacious sky. But in the parking lot last night, the air so clear & dark & glassy, I was giddy from a film we’d seen & loved, so happy that I thought I’d cry, sweet hurt that tells us death is beauty’s mother & I knew that I have lived a blessèd time.
